Some fuel injection and carbureted systems require a return line to the tank. Early tanks did not have a second fitting in the top for the return line. Later tanks (the change was made about 2001) will have a second fitting about 4" from the pickup. If you install your own return fitting, you may put it anywhere along the front (deep) edge. There is enough natural sloshing that overheating in the pickup area is not a big factor.
